Oak tree

We are lucky to have over 50 mature Oak trees on our site and they are mostly healthy. Unfortunately late last year one of the trees close to the buildings developed a bracket fungus, which is indicative of root rot. This causes the wood to decay in the heart of the tree, which eventually kills the tree. It can take years for an infected tree to become dangerous but sometimes it is very rapid. We cannot take any risks with trees at school, so it has been felled and the trunk sliced into a number of stools for use in the grounds.
